With the word VOIP, acronym of Voice Over IP, it is usually indicated a technology that allows to make a phone conversation exploiting an internet connection.
The main advantage of this technology consists in the removal of the need to reserve part of the band to the vocal pulses, exploiting the dynamic allocation of resources that is the main characteristic of IP protocols.
The vocal signal is sent on the network in the form of data’s packets containing vocal information codified in digital form. This occurs just when necessary that is when one of the connected users is speaking.
Among other advantages, compared to the traditional telephony:
- lower call cost, especially upon long distances;
- lower infrastructure costs: when an IP network is available, no other infrastructure is needed;
- new advanced features;
